The International Society of Wheelchair Professionals’ (ISWP) ambitious goal is to serve as the  global coordinating body of the wheelchair sector. ISWP’s vision is that “all people who need wheelchairs receive appropriate products and services with dignity, enabling them to access education, employment and health care and to participate in their communities.” Our work is primarily focused in low- and middle-income countries and some of our resources include the Wheelchair Educators’ Package, ISWP Wheelchair Service Training Series, and the ISWP Wheelchair Service Provider Certification at Basic, Intermediate, and Trainer levels. In the past 8 years, there have been several lessons learned from low- and middle-income countries pertaining to best practices for wheelchair services and products. These lessons are critical to identify gaps for improvement and future work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe 2 ISWP resources.
  2. Compare and contrast gaps in wheelchair services offered in different resource settings, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  3. Identify at least 1 opportunity for engagement with ISWP and partners in less-resourced setting
