#213: KidStart – Co-Design and Tech Transfer of a pediatric postural support wheelchair for LMICs

Date: Monday, March 20, 2023
Category: Buzz Session

KidStart is an Indo-US project that brings together a unique partnership in the international wheelchair sector. The Ohio State University, Mobility India (MI) and Participant Assistive Products are collaborating as academic-service-industry partners to co-design and launch a pediatric postural support wheelchair in India. The project was initially presented at the RESNA International SIG meeting in January 2022. This educational session will focus on iterative product design using ISO standard quality testing and community evaluation in India and introduce participants to our mixed methods approach to designing and launching a new product in LMICs. We will discuss the study findings and engage the audience in a discussion on the deployment of CRT in less-resourced settings, which is the project's next phase. The product is also being developed for resourced settings and we would like to collect feedback from the audience on different features that are valuable to different settings.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will identify the application of standards testing for wheelchair quality and design improvements
  2. Participants will identify the application of stakeholder feedback for wheelchair quality and design improvements
