The rehab team at University of Utah had the unique opportunity to design a hospital for the future and for patients. The Craig H Nielsen Rehabilitation Hospital is a testament to what is possible when we ask “what if?” instead of “what cost”. This presentation will review the process and outcomes of this 5-year journey that has produced the most accessible, patient-first rehab hospital of its kind. The goals of this presentation will be to: examine the basic components of a patient-first hospital, share developmental blueprints, and inspire others to create innovative and accessible spaces in their own area or facility.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will describe components of an accessibility first healthcare facility
- Participants will explain improved patient outcomes through early access to independence based technology
- Participants will be able to identify and discuss the barriers and solutions for creating patient-first spaces.
