NIDILRR-funded fellowships are targeted to begin between June and September. The attached flyer provides additional information about this integrated post-doctoral fellowship program in health services research at Northwestern University. Application procedures are described at the Center for Education in Health Science'sweb page. The “Admissions” link at the bottom of the page will prompt you to submit the required information:
- Personal statement. Describe in detail your career goals and how you see our fellowship program helping you fulfill your goals. Focus on your career objectives and how your background experience and training, in conjunction with the fellowship training, will lead to professional contributions in health services research. Identify specific research skills you would like to develop and the faculty members at NU and affiliated hospitals who might serve as mentors. We invite these faculty members to participate in the interview process and to provide feedback on the fit between your interests and theirs.
- Official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions. Official transcripts are usually sent by the university directly to Dr. Allen Heinemann, Director, Center for Rehabilitation Outcomes Research at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
- An up-to-date CV.
- Letters of reference from a minimum of two people who know your professional development well, customized to your Northwestern application.
Interviews are required for all applicants. Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree prior to the awarding of the fellowship. Applicants who are not in possession of a United States Permanent Resident Card (“green card”) or are not a US citizen should contact the program before applying because the Fellowship has unique requirements.
Applicants with interests in chronic illness, disability, and rehabilitation are eligible for funding under the Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training grant. This agency does fund foreign nationals. However, applicant’s research interests must be aligned with the
Long Range Plan of the
National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research; your personal statement should describe the fit between your interests and NIDRR’s Plan. Funding is available for fellows with an interest in disability policy research from NIDILRR. Year 1 coursework and mentoring is based in Chicago; year 2 is based at a federal agency in Washington, D.C.
Selection criteria include prior academic training and professional experience, the extent to which the applicant’s research interests relate to the strengths of the fellowship, the strength and commitment of the applicant to a health services research career, and the applicant’s potential to contribute significantly to the field of health services research, disability policy, or employment and physical disability.
