RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America, announced today that five new members have joined the organization’s Board of Directors. Three were elected to three-year terms by the membership, and two were appointed to one-year terms by President Ray Grott, ATP, RET. The elected board members are:
- Mary Ellen Buning, PhD, OTR/L, ATP/SMS; Dr. Buning is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, KY. Dr. Buning was named a RESNA Fellow this year, in recognition of her years of service to the organization and the field of rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology.
- Carmen DiGiovine, PhD, ATP/SMS, RET; Dr. DiGiovine is a Rehabilitation Engineer and Clinical Associate Professor in the Occupational Therapy Division-School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at The Ohio State University. He most recently served as Chair of the organization’s Professional Standards Board, which provides oversight of the RESNA certification programs.
- Meghan Donahue, MS, ATP; Ms. Donahue is a Rehabilitation Engineer at Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute of the University of Wisconsin Stout. This past year she served a one-year appointed term on the board. She is also Chair of the organization’s Engineers & Technologists Professional Specialty Group.
The two appointed board members are:
- Doug Gayton, MMM, CD, RCA, ATP; Mr. Gayton is a retired RESNA-certified ATP with extensive experience in facility and community based rehabilitation focused upon spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury, with a specialized interest in the assessment and provision of augmentative and alternative communication systems. His activities continue to involve provision of service from the perspective of participating on seven not-for-profit volunteer boards including veterans and several RESNA interests.
- Cindi Pichler, ATP, CRC; Ms. Pichler is an Assistive Technology Specialist at Independence First, a community-based non-residential Independent Living Center in Milwaukee, WI. She served most recently as chair of the organization’s Accommodations Special Interest Group.
