Category: Standards News

The next meeting of the RESNA Standards Committee on Adaptive Sports Equipment will be December 6, 2018 at 5:30 pm MT in conjunction with Ski Spectacular in Breckenridge, CO. Meetings are open to anyone; voting on documents requires membership.

The RESNA Standards Committee on Adaptive Sports Equipment last met in Breckenridge, CO at the 2017 Ski Spectacular event. Twenty people participated in this meeting and discussed restraint systems and voting comments. The committee plans to meet yearly to continue developing the RESNA ASE-1 standard.

The goal of the committee is to develop standards that affect users and organizations representing the technical needs of adaptive skiers including, Adaptive Sports Equipment Suppliers, Adaptive Ski Programs, Assistive Technology Practitioners, manufacturers and researchers of Sit-skis, Mono-skis and Bi-skis (SMBs), adaptive skiers, designers and test laboratories of SMBs. RESNA is a standards developing organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ANSI for the development of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards pertaining to assistive technology and other products for persons with disabilities.

It is important to the work of the committee that we have participating members from various aspects of adaptive ski users, programs, and entities.  This includes Consumers, Government, Manufacturers, Program Manager/Coordinators, Ski Area/Industry Operators, Teachers/Instructors, and Independent Specialists.  The committee is currently looking for adaptive skiers and operators of ski areas. To become a member, please visit /AT-Standards/Adaptive-Sports-Equipment-ASE to go the Standards Membership section, and download the member form for the committee.
