Category: Conference News

The next meeting of RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Accessibility will be held 24 June 2019, in Toronto, Canada, at 4:00 pm EDT, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, in conjunction with Rehab Week 2019 and the RESNA Annual Conference. Virtual meeting call-in information will be distributed prior to the meeting. Meetings are open to anyone; voting on documents requires membership.

The RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Accessibility last met virtually using GoToMeeting in August 2018. Six people participated in this meeting and reviewed RESNA CA-1 Sec. 1 ballot results, next steps, RESNA CA-1, Sec. 2 data/outline, RESNA CA-1, Sec. 3 data progress, committee outreach, the status of ISO TC173/WG10, and the plans to work to bring ANSI/RESNA CA-1, Sec.1 up to ISO.

The goal of the committee is to develop standards that affect people with cognitive impairment, their family members, caregivers, educators, and the manufacturers of technology products they use in daily living. RESNA is a standards developing organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ANSI for the development of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards pertaining to assistive technology and other products for persons with disabilities.

It is important to the work of the committee that we have participating members from various aspects of expertise in the field of cognition. This includes Academia Research, Government, Consumers/Caregiver/Advocates, Product Research & Development, and Test Labs, Testing Assessment & Clinical Experts.

The committee is currently looking for members in the categories of Government; Product Research & Development; and Test Labs, Testing Assessment & Clinical Experts.
