Standards committees seek new members

Two RESNA standards committees are seeking new members to help with the work of the committees. 

The next meeting of the RESNA Standards Committee on Wheelchair and Related Seating will be held 11 June 2015 in Denver, Colorado, 4:00pm-6:00pm Mountain Time, at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, in conjunction with the RESNA 2015. Meetings are open to anyone; voting on documents requires membership.  A virtual meeting has been planned for June 18, 2015 from noon to 2:00pm Eastern time. The committee last met virtually on March 9, 2015.
 
This standard covers wheelchair seating devices that are intended to provide postural support and/or tissue integrity management. It specifies test methods or methods of measurement for: vocabulary; the physical and mechanical characteristics; and static, impact and load strength testing.
 
Participants from diverse interest categories are encouraged to participate, and the committee is currently seeking participation from the following interest categories: rehabilitation researcher, policy expert, payor, or educator, and independent product research and development. The next meeting of RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Technologies will be held 13 June 2015 in Denver, Colorado, 3:30pm-5:00pm Mountain Time, at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, in conjunction with RESNA 2015. Meetings are open to anyone; voting on documents requires membership.
The committee last met September 10, 2014, in Milpitas, California.
 
The goal of the committee is to develop standards that affect people with cognitive impairment, their family members, caregivers, educators, and the manufacturers of technology products they use in daily living. It is important to the work of the committee to have participating members from various aspects of expertise in the field of cognitions. The committee is currently looking for participation from the following interest categories: Manufacturers, Disability Organization Representative, Product Research & Development, Consumers/Caregiver/Advocates, Government, and Test Labs, Testing Assessment & Clinical Experts. RESNA is a standards developing organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The RESNA Assistive Technology Standards Board is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ANSI for the development of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards pertaining to assistive technology and other products for persons with disabilities.
